Reolink Go PT Ultra Review: Complete Insight 2024
Cellular security cameras now serve as versatile solutions for securing remote locations such as construction sites and off-grid areas. Many camera manufacturers have introduced 3G/4G product lineups in response to user demands. Reolink, a global security solution provider, has launched the Go series, which includes several battery-powered cellular models. Today, we'll test the 4K version from this lineup—the Go PT Ultra.

Upon unboxing the product, we found its size and design are similar to the previous model, Go PT Plus. It has a motorized swivel mechanism that separates the base and the camera. Due to this structure, this cam can pan 355 degrees and tilt upside down 140 degrees. This camera also has an antenna at the top to optimize the network performance. Where to Use Go PT Ultra
Like other cellular security cameras, this model is perfect for places without WiFi or power sources. You can use the Go PT ultra to monitor ongoing construction projects. You can install this Go PT Ultra for enhanced security if you have remote properties such as barns, farms, or ranches. In other words, this camera poses a practical solution for locations where traditional wired or WiFi-based cameras face limitations. As long as there are cellular services (allowing phone calls and texts), you can set up the Go PT Ultra virtually anywhere.
Installation and Setup
The installation and setup of this camera are easy. I charged the battery for several hours and waited until the LED status light turned from orange to green. I inserted a SIM card from T-Mobile, powered the camera, and waited for the cellular setup to complete. It gave me a voice prompt and a blinking status light when the connection was activated.
After setting up the network, I opened the Reolink app on my phone (you need to download the app if you are new to Reolink cameras). Then, I scanned the QR code on the camera, followed the instructions, and finished the initial setup.
I installed this camera outside my house and used it to monitor my backyard. Sometimes, animals step into my yard, so having a camera there to record events would be interesting. I used the mounting bracket and template and pointed the camera directly to my yard. Overall, the whole installation process was very quick.
Connectivity and Data Usage
As mentioned, this camera uses cellular data for network connectivity. You can consider it as a mobile phone. A separate SIM card and data plan are required. I bought a SIM card from T-Mobile since I lived in the US. Carriers like EE and Orange can be used in Europe. Reolink claims that specific data usage depends on the bitrate users' setup. I tested the actual data usage. I set up the live feed in Clear Mode (default bitrate: 3Mbps), using about 1.28GB of data. Then I switched to the Fluent Mode (default bitrate: 672kbps). 1GB of data lasted for more than three hours of recordings.
The recordings can be stored on a microSD card. The Go PT Ultra supports SD cards up to 128GB. Reolink Cloud is also available in some regions.
Recording Modes and App
The Go PT Ultra starts recording when it detects movements within its field of view. Due to the embedded AI algorithms, the camera can even distinguish between persons, vehicles, and animals. It will send you real-time notifications to your smartphone app or email inbox. You can view real-time recordings via the Reolink app from anywhere with an Internet connection.
The Reolink App is generally easy to use. You can tap the dedicated button to launch a live stream. The "pause," "mute," and "video record" buttons allow you to document your recordings with more details. I like the app's "Time Lapse" function. I can capture sunrises, sunsets, and moving animals.
For home automation users, this camera is compatible with the Google Home ecosystem. You can integrate it with your Home Assistant for seamless management and control.
