Reolink OMVI X16 Named to TIME's Best Inventions of 2026, Plus Four More Honors

Picture a long driveway with a side gate. One camera watches the driveway but misses the gate, so you add a second one. It has been a common practice to keep adding cameras this way, just to remove blind spots.

This is when the Reolink OMVI X16 PoE comes in and takes a different approach to that problem. It is the flagship of Reolink's OMVI Series, a line built around three lenses that work together. The lenses keep a constant overview of a scene while focusing on whatever moves. Reolink aims the X16 PoE at large spaces and high-security sites.

Reolink showed the camera at CES 2026. TIME mentions that showing in its Best Inventions of 2026 entry, published October 15, 2026. Four more awards for design and innovation back up that recognition.

TIME Names the OMVI X16 PoE One of 2026's Best Inventions

Most smart home security cameras make you choose between wide coverage and a sharp zoom. TIME calls that the traditional dilemma, and it is why people keep adding cameras. Annie Potter, Reolink's head of North American marketing, makes the same point in TIME's write-up.

According to TIME, the X16 PoE answers that problem with a 360-degree base and a lens with 16x optical zoom. One unit can cover a large area, so you need fewer cameras overall.

TIME also credits the AI footage search and the privacy policy. AI search means you spend less time scrolling through recordings to find one event.

Reolink also lets you keep footage on hardware you own. The X16 PoE records to a microSD card of up to 512GB, a Reolink NVR or a NAS device. Local storage needs no subscription.

iF Design Award 2026 Recognizes the Triple-Lens Design

The iF Design Award 2026 recognized the OMVI X16 in its Camera category. The camera uses three lenses. Two form a 16MP panoramic view that spans 180 degrees. The third is an 8MP pan-tilt lens that zooms up to 16x optically and turns a full 360 degrees.

When the panoramic lenses detect motion, the pan-tilt lens locks onto the subject and follows it with a close-up. The pan is continuous, so the lens can keep following someone who walks all the way around the camera.

Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 Recognizes the Look and the Engineering

The Red Dot Award: Product Design 2026 recognized the OMVI X16 in its Surveillance Camera category. The jury praised how the camera combines intelligent security technology with a minimalist design.

The listing points to the engineering behind that look. A three-motor drive coordinates the panoramic and pan-tilt modules for 360-degree coverage. The panoramic lenses also tilt by motor, from 0 to 22 degrees, to adjust the angle of the wide view.

CES Innovation Awards 2026: An Honoree in Smart Home

The CES Innovation Awards 2026 named the OMVI X16 an Honoree in its Smart Home category. Reolink's CES roundup covers the X16 PoE, and TIME also notes the camera's CES showing.

The camera shows its panoramic view and its close-up view side by side in the Reolink App or PC Client. You can tap a point in the panoramic view to send the pan-tilt lens there. You can also set custom auto-patrol schedules and run one-tap scans.

Its AI tells people, vehicles and animals apart. It also supports local AI video search and perimeter protection with virtual fences, intrusion detection and loitering alerts.

German Design Award 2026: Winner for Excellent Product Design

The German Design Award 2026 named the OMVI X16 a Winner for Excellent Product Design in its Building and Elements category. The jury describes a considered mix of minimalist design and technical sophistication.

It calls the metal housing durable and stylistically assured. It also praises how the panoramic and pan-tilt cameras combine for versatile monitoring and how looks, function and AI analytics fit together.

Who the OMVI X16 PoE Fits

If you keep adding cameras to cover blind spots, the OMVI X16 PoE is built for exactly that problem. See the Reolink OMVI X16 PoE page for full specs and storage options.
