At the beginning of February 2025, Reolink will introduce its new lineup of wireless security camera systems. The Reolink Home Hub series will serve as the core device, with various camera bundles designed to meet different security needs. In this article, we will test out a brand new Reolink wireless camera system—the Reolink Home Hub with 2x Argus 4 Pro—provide feedback on its performance, and discuss its advantages and disadvantages.

Product Overview

This camera kit includes a Reolink Home Hub, two Argus 4 Pro cameras, and two solar panels for the cameras. Since it’s a bundle, the product box is significantly larger than that of a single camera. According to the quick instructions included in the box, we can find the specifications below:

The camera bundle also comes in a 4-camera version. You can choose the kit based on your specific needs.

After much anticipation, Reolink has finally launched the Reolink Home Hub and an upgraded version, the Home Hub Pro. Being quite familiar with Reolink cameras, I prefer to refer to the hub as a wireless NVR. This central hub is designed for Reolink's battery-powered WiFi cameras. Cameras can be connected to the Hub wirelessly, and users can manage all connected cameras through a single interface on the Reolink app. Here are some of its main features:

  • Wireless security center with local storage capability (Up to 512GB×2 microSD card)
  • Storage encryption & privacy protection
  • Totally subscription-free
  • Expandable system up to 8 Reolink cams
  • Built-in alarms for real-time alerts

The cameras included in this kit are the Argus 4 Pro, known for their combination of dual-lens and ColorX technology. As a battery-powered model, the Argus 4 Pro is compatible with solar panels, which is why this bundle comes with two separate solar panels. Being one of Reolink's star products, I believe the Argus 4 Pro can achieve maximum effectiveness when connected to a Home Hub. Check out its main features below:

  • 4K UHD Wi-Fi 6 camera with 180° blindspot-free view
  • Color night vision without using spotlights
  • Rechargeable battery and solar panel
  • Subscription-free smart detections

Installation and Setup

Unlike standalone cameras, the installation and setup of this camera kit require additional procedures. Personally, I divide it into two parts: setting up the Hub, and then connecting the cameras to the Hub. Here is the breakdown of my installation and setup process:

If you are new to Reolink cameras, remember to download the Reolink app before setting up the Reolink Home Hub. First, I powered on my hub and connected it to my router using a network cable before proceeding with the software setup. The initial setup in the Reolink app is quite similar to that of a camera.

Simply add the hub to your app by scanning the QR code, then enter a unique username and a strong password. Finally, name the hub. The whole process is complete. I found it very easy.

Next, I needed to connect two cameras to the Hub. I simply tapped into the home hub management interface, where there's a '+' button to add devices. By scanning the QR code, I easily connected the two Argus 4 Pro cameras to the Hub. According to Reolink Support articles, users can also add cameras via the main interface of the Reolink App.

After testing the system, I find most of the features to be solid and useful. I really appreciate the all-in-one management via the Hub and the Argus 4 Pro's full-color night vision. Check out the details below:

Central management

The Reolink Home Hub serves as the central management device within this system. I added both Argus 4 Pro cameras to the hub. If you already have other Reolink cameras that are compatible with the hub, you can also add them to the home hub. Thanks to the home hub, I can access all my Reolink cameras through a single interface in the Reolink app. This allows me to set up my cameras' recording modes, motion sensitivity, and more.

I also find that he Reolink Home Hub has a new feature called Scene Mode, which includes three default settings: Disarmed, Home, and Away. These modes allow the Home Hub to automatically configure connected devices based on your selection. For instance, if I choose the “Away” mode, all devices will enable tracking and push notifications to protect your home and alert you promptly, even if you are away.

Local storage

The Home Hub also serves as the storage base for the cameras within the kit. The original bundle comes with a 64GB microSD card. Since the system is expandable, users can upgrade the SD card based on their specific needs. The Home Hub is compatible with up to two 512GB microSD cards. I always prefer local storage because I don't really trust cloud storage.

The Reolink Home Hub is armed with exclusive encryption algorithms, guaranteeing top-tier data protection. Compared to typical cloud storage, this hub stores and safeguards your recordings against any potential data loss, even during network interruptions.

Alarm and notification

One feature I really love about the Home Hub is that it can trigger an alarm when any of the connected cameras are activated. I find this functionality incredibly useful. Besides serving as a monitoring system, when placed inside the property, it can also function as a security alarm system. I can customize the alarm ringtones to my preference. Additionally, even if I'm not at home, I will receive push notifications, and the notification speed of Reolink devices is generally fast.

Video quality

Now, let's get back to the cameras. The Reolink Argus 4 Pro boasts 4K 8MP resolution with two lenses combined into one device. Compared to other 4K cameras, the footage captured by the Argus 4 Pro is generally wider, making it more suitable for monitoring driveways or larger spaces, such as backyards. The video quality of the camera is excellent, and I can see great details when digitally zooming in on snapshots.

Color night vision

The Argus 4 Pro also integrates Reolink's ColorX technology, providing full-color night vision without using visible spotlights. When there are no lights at all, the spotlight will automatically turn on to provide full-color footage. I think the ColorX technology makes nighttime footage clearer, but there's a slight issue—if the spotlight is on, the camera battery may drain faster.

Pros and Cons

After testing this wireless security camera system, I can say it meets most of my expectations. Here are its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Cameras are accessible via a single interface on the app.
  • Subscription-free smart features.
  • Secure local storage with expandable MicroSD cards.
  • Excellent video quality both day and night.
  • The hub has a built-in alarm.

Cons:

  • Cameras connected to the hub cannot be accessed individually.
  • Spotlights may drain the cameras' battery faster.

Verdict

Overall, the Reolink Home Hub with Argus 4 Pro is an excellent wireless security system. It can promptly monitor your property and also serves as an alarm system to alert you to any danger. The system is suitable for both homes and small-scale businesses. It is also future-proof, as the Home Hub is expandable up to 8 cameras, making it a good option for future needs. However, keep in mind that the Home Hub itself requires a wired connection for power supply, so it's important to plan some space for this kit.
