I've got many Reolink cameras over the years but stepped into the doorbell camera world as soon as this came out so was almost somewhat of a trial albeit that I paid full price. I bought the Reolink Battery Doorbell V2 hoping for a seamless, hassle-free security setup, and while it definitely has its strong points, a couple of major flaws hold it back.
Let's start with the claim of a 10-month battery life—that has been completely disconnected from reality in my experience. I had to yank it off the wall and charge it after just one single month of use. Part of the blame lies on the sensitivity; out of the box, it was triggering constantly on false notifications—cars passing down the street, shadows moving, you name it. Even after dialling back the detection zones and sensitivity settings (which for "other" motion detection is either all or non), the battery simply drains far faster than advertised unless you live in a cul-de-sac with zero traffic.
It doesn't come with a chime and while I thought this would be fine as you can use a google speaker as a chime, the google connection drops out periodically which means it is just a phone notification which is fine provided you always have your phone on you.
Another annoyance is the wake-up delay. Because it relies on battery-saving sleep modes, there’s a noticeable lag between someone walking up to the door and the unit actually waking up to trigger an alert and start recording. By the time I open a live view notification on my phone, the delivery driver is often already halfway back down the driveway.
That being said, I can't fault the actual footage. The video quality is genuinely great. The 2K resolution is crisp, the 1:1 head-to-toe aspect ratio lets me see packages left right on the doorstep, and the night vision holds up really well. The app is responsive once connected, and not being locked into a monthly subscription for basic features or local storage is a huge plus.
It’s a bit of a mixed bag. If you’re buying this expecting to charge it once a year, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you don't mind popping it off to charge every few weeks—or wiring it into existing doorbell power—the picture quality and lack of subscription fees make it a solid, if slightly flawed, unit. All of these can be fixed by wiring it into the existing doorbell and changing it to always on mode but the main reason for picking a battery doorbell was to avoid drilling through the wall / door.

I needed a video doorbell that was:
1) battery operated
2) local, not cloud required
3) works with home assistant
Reolink seems to hit those boxes best. The doorbell works well, is easy to install, and has good functionality. In my situation, I have to customize the settings for notifications and sensing given I live on a busy walkway, which I was able to do. Reolink is currently testing firmware for better HA integration which will be great. I'd like to see some more development on the doorbell in terms of features, and I've noted they're very responsive on socials (Reddit / discord / etc) so feel optimistic.

Was a nice easy install for a new house that had a battery powered Ring doorbell. Added the chime box kit and another chime on a different floor and it all works great. Love that I can self-host and not deal with Amazon anymore.
