Hello, i have this camera almost one year. It saved me few times. The zoom is incredible - many times I was able to verify what is going on about 60 meters away. It can recognize a cat from that distance! During the night picture is really great and the IR is very powerful. I'm not able to compare to the S2 version, but I'm pretty sure the image quality is similar (or even the same). Because this camera is cheaper, i think it's a great choice and you will be as happy as i'm.

And here is why...
Let's start out with the good stuff. 16X zoom. 'nough said. I can read a license plate, clearly, 2 blocks away. The pan/tilt motors are fairly quiet. I see where other reviews say it is loud and I do not find it to be loud at all. You do pick up motor noise in the camera audio, but not too badly, but even a few feet away, you would be hard pressed to know the camera is following you. This is also partially due to the all flat black of the camera "ball". There are no bright spots other than the flat lens, like white plastic or other contrasting parts on the camera ball itself, so when it does track, it is not super obvious it is doing so. I like this design feature. Image quality is very good at the higher resolution rates even when zoom in on far objects. But the focus does seem to search quite a bit at times.
With the new firmware, the auto tracking does work, and does detect vehicles and people well so far, and at quite a distance. However... It does not auto zoom in on distant objects, even if it does recognize a vehicle or person. And this is very disappointing. So even though the camera will register that it sees a vehicle or person, it will not appropriately zoom to that object. So if you are thinking you may be able to do LPR, not likely.
The night time IR illumination covers a pretty large area.
This camera also has a fairly narrow field of view. I think this camera is really designed to be up higher than what you would normally mount at a home, light the corner of the garage, etc. This lens really wants to be up in the air, say 12'-15' or more in order to even be able to see a driveaway or front of the house, etc. It may work if you have a long ranch home and place at a far corner. But if just mounting it a the corner of the garage is going to be a big disappointment if you think you will be able to see your driveway and front of the house. If you want to watch the neighbors TV 2 block away, then this is the camera for you.
Oh... and another biggie, this camera and I don't think any of the RLC cameras, are supported in Reolink cloud. Not sure how important that is since they increased the prices so dramatically. Either just roll with the internal SD card storage, or use an NVR if you have several cameras. But Reolink cloud is definitely out.

I am hoping some additional firmware tweaking will address the auto-track/auto-zoom feature, as well as optimizations for the focusing. There is probably not much they can do about the field of view in software. Maybe I am wrong. But other than that a solid optical performance so far with a couple glaring handicaps that keep it from reaching the stars.

Ok so I live out in the country and have a lot of land to watch over. I've been researching every camera you can name at this price range and none compare. The 16x zoom is what really sold it for me since I want to watch over so much.

(The good part of the review):

I have 2 of these so far and plan on getting 2 more after seeing what they can do.
I have one set up on the back of my barn overlooking my field and let me tell ya, this is the best security/trail camera made. I use it to watch deer in the mornings and the nice auto track feature will just follow them as they walk across the field. best trail camera Ive ever had. I have that camera set up to auto detect animals (works good on deer) then it auto uploads that clip of the deer directly to my pc in my house!

Installing it was very simple, these are very large cameras that weigh over 3 pounds. so if youre mounting on a barn like I did, make sure you add extra support on the inside or when you pan/tilt you find a lot of wobble and it makes it impossible for the camera to focus.
If you have a older nvr like I do, its best to run these cameras off a POE switch since when these are plugged directly into the NVR it takes over and you lose a lot of functions that the nvr can support (auto track and such)

Image quality is out of this world.

(Now to the things they can totally improve on)
These cameras have a feature call "Patrol" which you can set points for the camera to move to. That way the camera can see the whole area instead of just the focus point. (when it works. on the 16x cameras they only work for about 3 minutes then just go back to the origin point. the 823 5x works fine with this feature)
when this feature is on it disables auto track, thats a huge let down and seems like that would be a really easy thing to include.
Also on the focusing, youll notice on the video I include that when youre zoomed in it will auto focus one time, thats it. if you pan up or down to an object father or closer it wont auto focus and it will be super blurry. you have to manually zoom in and out to get it to auto focus again. kind of annoying.

These cameras are HUGE, out here on the farm they kind of blend in with everything else but in a subdivision they would really stick out.

overall, these are great cameras and everything negative to say about them seem like it could easily be fixed by a few firmware updates. they are new cameras so this is to be expected.
11/10 im upgrading all my cameras to these.

Love these cameras. Got them when pre order opened up and the tracking wasn't there but came later in a firmware update. Got them in my front yard as we have heavy street traffic and it does a great job!!

Hallo zusammen,
gerade wo eine meiner sehr alten POE Kameras durch einen selbstverschuldeten Fehler defekt war, kam dieses Angebot. Somit die Perfekte Kamera zum Perfekten Zeitpunkt.
Reolink, macht weiter so ;-)
