    I installed and maintained cctv, intrusion and other electronics for20+ years and have seen lots of systems, high quality and low. This camera has great clarity and works very well. While there is a bit of delay in the P/T functions, i attribute this to internet travel time for the signals and is perfectly acceptable to me. I absolutely recommend this camera with a solar panel to everyone ! Btw, a 128gb SD card makes a pretty good storage of video set at 10fps 👍

    Bought two of these cameras in mid December and fitted them at about 2.5 metres from the ground and, as I didn't want to climb ladders to attach a charging cable, I 'hard wired' them to chargers inside and set them on timers to mimic solar panels for a few hours each day.

    They were fairly easy to set up, but I had to search the support pages for setting up the horizontal tracking parameters and monitoring points, (as the installation and set up 'manual' is very basic), to fully set up and calibrate them to my monitoring requirements. Because the areas aren't well at night I use the spotlights on auto mode, with the siren facility for during the late night to early morning.

    All went well until we had a cold spell and the batteries wouldn't charge due to the cold weather. I was advised that I should take the cameras indoors to warm them up and then charge them indoors. Having done this, I didn't relish the prospect of doing this task several times a week in freezing temperatures we can have during the winter months so I fabricated 'mini electric blankets' for them from waterproof 'pet warming pads' which I enveloped in plant protection fleece and folded into thick pads on which I placed a film of kitchen foil on the top to keep the heat in and covering with more fleece before fitting them over the top and. down the side and front of the battery case and securing them with velcro tape fitted in front and behind the microphone and loudspeaker. I also put them on timed charge during the night via 5 volt 2 amp usbA charger and long extension cables.

    The following morning, when the temperature was well below freezing outside, (- 2.3 Celsius), I was very pleased that both cameras immediately began charging at their allotted times and this 'hack' has worked well since. To test this I tried to charge the cameras after a cold day when the outside temperature was just below freezing and they were about 70% charged and they wouldn't ordinarily have charged - whereas they started charging an hour after their electric blankets had been switched on.

    I was also impressed when I saw an alert at 3:30 a.m., one morning and saw that a black cat with a small white patch on it's throat had jumped over a neighbours fence about 10 metres from the camera and was nonchalantly strolling towards the house before the siren went off, when it then beat a very hasty retreat.

    Another plus is their size, yes they are big beasts that stand out and discreet they are not; but they are what they are meant to be - deterrents to dissuade any would be nefarious characters; especially during night when the spotlights are on and so obviously functioning when any power cuts happen - so, their question is. 'do I feel lucky and hope the signal isn't going to a mobile device which is now operating from a power bank and sending the video to be saved in the cloud; or do I go somewhere else?' - probably a no-brainer.

    The only downside is that they are slow to react and do not capture any distant movement without the pre-recording mode function turned on.

    I had researched POE and wired WiFi cameras which Reolink's Support team informed me were more 'reliable' and don't need charging, which is a fact; but, if there is a power cut, when any felon could take advantage of the near total darkness with relish - then they are as useful a kettles made out of snow.

    So, on balance, now that I've overcome the charging issue in cold weather, I'm content with my choice.

  • The best in it's class battery powered camera

    I installed this Altas PT ultra last year dec. to cover my house entrance and carport.. and 10 months later - the ownership has been great. The Pre-recording function (i keep it on for about 8-10 hours) takes care of the common bane of battery cameras that they miss the initial part of any motion, and even - the battery hasn't dropped below 50% at the darkest week when t went without sun for a week. Unlike other cams, this cam doesn't switch to IR but records in color , even at night or in low light conditions. See the attached footage for yourself. 2 of my fronds have also bought 5 of these units now, on my recommendation.

  • Does not integrate with Reolink NVR

    This camera works great, and its battery life is good as well, takes a couple of seconds to play the video (I assume that's normal), the main downside is that this camera does not integrate with any pre-existing Reolink NVR, I have a RLN36, and it does not work with it.

    Overall this is a good camera. It has all the features that make it a good choice. With one exception. This camera cannot be used with other NVRs. For me this is a deal breaker and the camera will be returned.

    I have this mounted on my building facing my driveway. I have the sensitivity for recording people at 90%. People can walk up my driveway and I usually get the last second of them before they disappear into my back yard. Horrible for a security Camera. Also if you have it it on Color mode for recording at night . In order to see everything. You have to raise the brightness to a point that lights completely flair the lens and you cannot see anything. I have had older Reolink cameras that may not have the picture quality of this under ideal conditions. But they did a MUCH better job as a security camera.

  • Excellent clarity/operating parameters lacking

    The battery and solar panel would be ok if you live closer to the equator, but the temperature and short days in Minnesota reduce the effectiveness of both. Why would you advertise a camera for winter with a operation temperature that bottoms out at 14° F? Otherwise the system performs as advertised. Tracking works.

    Preis Leistung ganz oK, jedoch verbesserungswürdig!
    Im Nahbereich ist die Bildqualität gut, jedoch lässt diese nach ca. 6m stark ab und dieses ganz besonders im IR-Modus. Die Autotracking-Funktion funktioniert nicht immer. Mal wird das Objekt verfolgt, mal nicht! Was definitiv in der Software fehlt, sind verschiedene Profile die man einstellen und speichern kann. z.B. Profil 1, Erfassungsbereich komplett, Kamera auf ein Objekt links mit Verfolgung ausgerichtet / Profil 2, Kamera rechts ausgerichtet, ohne Verfolgung, mit Privatmaske aktiv, Profil 3,..... Somit könnte man die Einstellungen nach Bedarf schnell wechseln.

  • Good, but has a few big "buts"

    The camera is good and functional and it is nice that it has a large battery and the usual ability to use a solar panel.

    However, the main issue is that even in full sun during the day, and the solar panel is connected, if you have pre-recording enabled, it will still run out of battery charge in a few days. The solar panel is not enough for the camera to work indefinitely if pre-recording is enabled.

    There is one more quirk that I cannot understand. There is a spotlight on the camera; however, it is either always on or off. If you turn it on in the settings, the light will turn on at night and basically be consistently on throughout the night. If you turn it off in the settings, the light will be off. There is no option to have it on, but only to light up when the camera detects movement with its PIR sensor, for example. I have Reolink Duo 3 PoE and Argus 4 Pro, and both of them have spotlights, but in both of them, the spotlights only light up when the camera detects movement. I have no idea why Reolink did not add this as an option to this camera.

    All in all, if you do not use pre-recording and it does not annoy you that the spotlight will always be on or always off, then you can buy this model and use it completely indefinitely without the need for manual charging.
    If you want to use pre-recording, this camera is not for you. If I knew that before I bought it, I wouldn't have bought it, as I do want to use the pre-recording. Unfortunately, now it is too late to return, so I use it without the pre-recording.

    Ich habe die Altas auf der CES gesehen und konnte es kaum erwarten bis man diese bestellen konnte. Habe sie nun bestellt und heute ist die Kamera gekommen! Einrichten/Installation ist kinderleicht, die Bildqualität ist phantastisch und das pre-Recording einfach genial! Gefühlt ist der Akku nicht leerer geworden, obwohl ich den ganzen Nachmittag herumgespielt habe.
    Ich bin auf die Nachtbilder gespannt, doch bin ich davon überzeugt, dass das genauso gut sein wird!
    Wer eine sehr gute Überwachungskamera für m.E. sehr wenig Geld haben möchte, der ist mit der Altas gut bedient! Ich kann diese nur empfehlen.

    Wir haben zwei Stück der Altas PT Ultra gekauft. Eine filmt unsere Terrasse, die andere unsere Einfahrt. Beide werden durch Bewegungen aktiviert und über Solarpanele mit Strom versorgt.
    Die Kamera auf der Terrasse funktioniert sehr gut, da sie einen breiten Bereich filmt und somit die gesamte Terrasse abgedeckt ist. Auch die Aktivierung funktioniert super, da die Kamera nah genug am Geschehen ist.
    Die Kamera bei unserer Einfahrt musste leider ein paar Meter von der Action entfernt installiert werden. Das führt dazu, dass sie nicht immer anspringt, wenn jemand die Auffahrt hochkommt. Genauso gibt es manchmal Probleme, wenn ein Auto zu schnell vorbeifährt. Dann wird sie auch nicht aktiviert. Grundsätzlich sind wir aber zufrieden. Auch die Verfolgung von Personen funktioniert, sobald die Kamera einmal aktiviert ist.
    Die Stromversorgung mit Solarpanelen funktioniert auch ganz ok. In unserer Lage haben wir leider nicht übermäßig viel Sonne, trotzdem reicht es aus, um die Kameras im bewegungsaktivierten Betrieb mit ausreichend Strom zu versorgen, sodass man kein extra Ladekabel anstecken muss, auch jetzt im Herbst noch. Für den Voraufnahmen-Modus reicht zumindest in unserer Lage die Versorgung via Solarpanel nicht aus.

    The two pan and tilt units are so much better than I was expecting. Installation and setup was easy. Being my first experience with the phone app, I needed to poke around a bit too find all the options the app offered.

    One camera has only a few hours of direct sun, so upgraded to the 10/12 watt (cannot recall which) solar panel to maintain a full battery charge.

    Setting up my cameras and doorbell was easy enough. I have though found a missing feature, it would be great if you could use the privicy mask with PTZ cameras. When I mask an area then pan the camera away from that view the masking stays and obscures that area all the time.

  • A Powerful 4K Camera That Truly Delivers

    I've been using the Reolink Altas PT Ultra for a while now, and I'm happy to report that it absolutely delivers on all its advertised features. The 4K video is crisp, and the pan-tilt functions are smooth.

    My favorite feature by far is the continuous recording capability. Most battery-powered cameras only record on motion, but the Altas PT Ultra's large battery allows it to record 24/7. This has been a fantastic feature for me, as I've been able to capture all the nightly cat/possum activities in my backyard—something I would have missed with a motion-only camera.

    The ColorX night vision is also excellent, providing clear, full-color images in low light without needing a bright spotlight.

    There are a couple of things I think could be improved:

    Recording File Management: While the continuous recording is great, the camera saves the footage as separate 5-minute files. This makes it a bit tedious to scan through a whole night's worth of footage. I wish there were an option for longer, consolidated files.

    Night Vision Options: The ColorX feature is impressive, but it seems to be the only night vision option. In complete darkness, it can struggle. I would love to have the option to switch to traditional black-and-white infrared (IR) night vision. This would give users the flexibility to choose the best mode for their specific lighting conditions.

    Overall, the Reolink Altas PT Ultra is a top-tier camera that lives up to its promises. With a couple of small software or hardware tweaks, it would be just about perfect.

    Our summer is extreme and our units work well. They were easy to install and the addition of solar has been tops. Everything came in the package and have only had one faulty micro sim issue. The doorbell works a treat now. Can be little bit fiddly getting your settings right to minimise false alarms but we got there in time. Great clarity and easy to clean and maintain. Best couple grand spent for some years. Have better security around house and it also encouraged our neighbours to install some as well.

  • I now own 3 Riolink cameras

    Prior to relocating, I had a mix of cameras on and in my previous home and the Riollink cameras were the most reliable. Once we were established in our new residence, it was a no brainer to stick with Riolink. Currently there is an Argus PT Lite on guard in the front, a wifi doorbell camera at the entrance and an E1 Pro in the front entrance hall. These camera are 6 months to a year old and are functioning flawlessly. Im very happy with all 3 and currently doing research for an additional camera for the backyard.

    I love this camera, it's quick to connect to, easy to setup, easy to install. There's one drawback, I have the NVR RLN8-410-E, and I haven't been able to configure it to use the NVR.

    Amazing clarity, excellent color night vision as opposed to my Wyze Cam Pan V3 that sits right next to my Reolink, the Wyze video is not as clear and no color night video, my Reolink has been up for 8 months now and the battery is always at 100%
