This is my third Reolink camera. I could never solve the false detections problem with the RLC 423, no matter what was masked or how the sensitivity was adjusted, false alarms were constantly triggered. I didn't bother installing the second one (RLC 511) since it also does not have the person detection so I'll likely use it indoors where there will be no shadows or blades of grass moving. So I bought this one Argus 3 Pro which solved the detection problem. My concern is that the battery is not replaceable. Given the cost to ship it back, I'll keep it and hope for the best. Reolink still has some improvements to be made before they are best in class.

The Argus 3 Pro is my 8th different Reolink camera model since 2017. Some have been good, some not so much. Seems they nailed it with this one. Easy to setup, great quality picture, lots of useful options for detection and notification. The AI is impressive. Not great, but very good so far (3 days of testing).
All at a price that is very reasonable.
And the wifi antenna seems quite good too.
One criticism is placing the speaker on the backside of the camera. That might be fine for indoor use but makes no sense for outdoor where the sound is quickly lost at any distance. Fortunately, not important to me.
A second criticism is the bracket for the matching solar panel. The bracket for the camera is a very nice dual-purpose screw-in or strap-on design. But the bracket for the matching solar panel is screw-in only. So if you strap the camera to a pole, you’re left to figure out how to mount the solar panel.
    Overall, 4.5 out of 5 stars. 👍👍

use strong double sided tape for solar panel where you can't use the bracket. Alien tape and Gorilla tape are extremely strong and weatherproof.

  • Wake up delay too long

    Whirnot - Jan 17, 2024

I bought 5 of these with solar panels. Easy setup and configuration. Quality is excellent. Unfortunately for a security camera, they are seriously lacking. I have one, right at the edge of the driveway, to show any vehicle coming in. Even in the highest sensitivity, the camera does not show the front of a vehicle by the time it "wakes up". So the key piece of evidence, a license plate number is not captured.
Vehicles crossing other cameras, are completely out of view before it wakes up.

hi all .wow , very very nice camera ..looks and feels like a $500 camera ..This has lots of upgrades from the Argus 3 ..duel wifi 2.4gh and 5gh ,and it works great .the PIR is all so good , i had no false triggers.
it had night color video and all so now 2K up from 1080p, and you can see the different ,way better...and then there is the light ,,,wow so bright, you can leave it on ..off up to you , its all done by the app ..same as the siren..even better you can record your own voice message to play when motion is detected ..and on the play back side of things you can pick from vehicle or people the camera will find the clips according to your preference.and the battery ..well i have had it 4 weeks and its on %100 still ,but i am in Australia ,so i unplugged it from my solar panel and use it a lot ,and i had it on 2k mode and only used %18 ..the audio is super clear as is the mic ..speaker could be a bit loader for your own voice message ..over all its a fanatic camera ,,for the price its the best in its field.
i have put in some very amateur videos ..they were all taken from the Argus 3 pro..please have a look and listen to them ..they say a picture paints a thousand words ..( i could not upload my big video ??)any Questions just ask ...

  • Impressive!!

    Rob - Jan 01, 2023

After much research I decided on an exterior system composed of four Argus 3 Pro’s and one Argus PT. I had previously purchased an Argus 2 to experiment with for several months, including the Reolink phone app. Being satisfied with the tests I moved ahead with the purchase of the full system I wanted.

As our home is southwestern style and I didn’t want to drill holes in the stucco finish, I decided to fabricate custom mounts for each camera / solar-panel combo, painted to match the color of the stucco. Once I got that done and powered up, and added 64GB cards to each camera, the system came together nicely.

The daytime performance of the cameras was what I had expected. But what really blew me away is the night-vision performance of the cameras. They are advertised as having "up to 10 meters" of visibility with PIR on. As you can see from the photos these cameras are displaying more like 100-120’, on a cloudy night, via the PIR illuminators in each camera. Wow.

Also, I was equally impressed with the LED lights on each Argus Pro 3 (easily turned on remotely), They are BRIGHT, and allow color imaging at night, vs black-and-white with the PIR illuminators. The solar panels appear to be quite efficient, as the cameras indicate charging even on overcast days.

One minor nit is the grid display options on the phone are limited to either 4 cameras (2x2) or 9 cameras (3x3). That’s not a big issue since it’s quite easy to just swipe through each camera individually.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with this camera system. I am very impressed with the cameras, the phone app and the desktop app. 5 stars, Reolink!!

  • Bonne petite caméra

    armand57600 - Nov 30, 2022

  • Easiest setup ever!

    Dave - May 30, 2022

I bought this for our backyard and I was able to install the mounting hardware and solar panel, and configure and mount the camera in less than 30 minutes! I scanned the QR code on the camera and entered my Wi-Fi credentials, bingo it connected instantly and I was able to use the app and view my backyard.

The picture quality is really good. And I love the fact that I also have audio and speaker for two-way communication. This is the easiest setup I've ever encountered. If this thing performs this well all summer I'll probably buy two more.

  • Discussion about Reolink cams and security items

    Experiencedthis - Jan 23, 2022

I've been using security cams for over 20 years now. I don't have a PoE option. I am sold on the Reolink brand. In this past 2 years (with two different types of cams) I have actually seen video get stolen (motion based) from the cams more than once. (I had a hidden cam, and the video was not stolen, this is how I know). Yes, my cameras have a hard 14character password, and the router is very secure. The way around getting motion based hacking is: set the camera's sensitivity to "0" or as low as you can. Paint over the whole screen. Use the 'timer function' on wired cameras to record without motion; and also use the TL (timelapse) function. This will keep your video stream from being "hijacked" (only have to point an IR light at it to trigger motion). Also suggest a decoy cam and a hidden cam. And Reolink works with a good VPN as well.

  • Great true wireless camera. So simple to set up for a novice.

This is my first security camera. Set up was very simple. Installation even easier. Picture quality is great. App was easy to set up. Solar chord is very long making it flexible where to install. I always thought setting up a security system would be an effort. This was effortless. Free 7 day cloud is amazing. Only complaint is SD card max is 128GB for this model. Records on SD and cloud, so you can move video older than 7 days if you miss it in the cloud. Comes with desk mount, that I didn't need. Bit of a waste to send and throw out. Comes with security sticker - sticky part is backwards - to read it, must stick on outside window, should be able to stick on inside window. Small in size, lights are good quality. So far detection has been spot on. This is true wireless. Some mfg state wireless but need to be plugged in for power. Wires are mess and a pain to set up. I went with wireless knowing that being in Canada, the camera will not work when it is very cold. Reolink confirmed the battery/camera will not be damaged due to extreme cold. The camera can operate at colder temperatures than is required to charge the battery. On very cold days, I have have to use a portable charger or bring the camera inside and charge. The pain of wires is worse than not having cameras all the time/manual charge. Friends have wired systems and they are an ugly mess.

These work well, I have several of them at home. I don't like that you can't use them with surveillance station or similar apps. The motion sensitivity is good but there is a lag, so you'll often miss the very beginning of the motion triggering event. Overall its good, and I love the solar - never have to swap battery packs here in FL. Happy but could be better.

    Sebastian - May 31, 2022

I bought some Argus 3 pro cameras with solar panels and are much better than I've expected with a single caveat... doesn't support any kind of 3rd party app to record or an API to use their functions. The Reolink app is pretty simple to use and have some options, but I would like to have this possibility to implement the camera with any other software, even if my battery would have drained more quickly.

  • Argus 3 pro good value, great support

    Hawkeye - Jan 31, 2024

I have bought 2 Argus 3 Pro's with solar panels & find they offer good quality & tech for the priceline.
They are a good solution particularly with rental situations as they are easy to install, unobtrusive & cable free (except for solar panel of course).
Picture & build quality is good & you don't need a subscription if you are ok with storing data locally on an sd card.
Configuration of zones, sensitivity etc work reasonably well after a little familiarity & tweaking & should be adequate for most people's needs.
My biggest complaint would be the push notifications. There have been a few occasions where notifications don't arrive on my devices (IOS & Android) causing undue time trouble shooting, only to deduct that there server is most likely the issue. I live in Brisbane but do not know where their server pushes from & their website offers no server status that I can see. But for the most part works well.
Also another thing I did not like Is during camera setup the volume is annoyingly loud but fortunately this is a process you won't have to do more than once or very often.
I had an issue with one of my Argus 3 Pro's with moisture getting in behind the lens & contacted support who were fantastic (thank you Candice). They were very responsive & offered a no nonsense replacement solution. I understand all products can have issues, but it's great to know Reolink stand behind their products.
In summary this is a good choice product at that sweet spot offering value for money.

I have to say i've owned this camera for 2 year with zero issues. Mine is battery operated with a solar panel to keep it charged, i thought living in CT with cold winters and snow this $120 set up wouldn't last and i'll tell you it has! No matter what time of year battery is at 100% charge, even after 0 degree nights (not much motion to record but still) still never an issue with battery being low. Well worth my money, just wish battery & WIFI cameras could record to a recoding device

    Verified Purchase

We have several Argus 3 cameras in our home and the Argus 3 Pro is a definitively needed upgrade. The video and picture is SO clear but the best part is the person/car detection. Having these detections and being able to differentiate between them cuts down on false alarms twofold! My only wish is that I could have the option to remove the playback even if I remove the notification of either the car or person (notification and playback or both). Also I think the sound quality is about average. You can year everything from the app but from the camera it has a bit of static. Still, the upgrade is amazing. The night vision and color visions are as good if not better than previous versions. I don't like that sometimes in the previews there is a flash at the beginning. Maybe that's a setting? Aside from that, this is great!! I will be replacing the rest of my front of the house facing cameras with this for sure.
