  • Auto focus needs improvement

    YJSP - Apr 12, 2024

    It's a really good camera but auto-focus always under/overshoots before returning to the correct focus. For this reason each time the zoom level is adjusted it takes more than 6 seconds to focus. This time should be cut under half or less. Also sometimes it does not really need to re-focus after zoom adjustment, but it does that and blurs out the image anyways.

  • So much potential!

    I would begin by stating that I absolutely love the build quality and potential of this particular camera - I mean seriously, huge props to Reolink for their design choices A+

    That being said, here is a short and sweet pro & con list of the camera, as well as some observations that I am hoping, may prove helpful to Reolink and the future of this camera;

    PROS:
    Outstanding build quality
    Very smooth articulation, bearings
    Excellent image quality/optical zoom
    Above average night vision
    Excellent spotlight performance
    Virtually silent turret operation
    Flexible mounting options

    CONS:
    No directional control in per-programming
    No tracking in patrol mode
    No front-end UI position presets - requiring menu + submenu clicks
    No zoom memory with presets
    No focus memory with preset
    Focus settings(values) change between night and day modes

    Beyond that, I did find a few software bugs with this camera, requiring that I close the software and restart it again, namely with the patrol mode, in-that all of the interface functions appeared to have stopped working.

    That said, I really like this camera, in-that it is very well made, in-that it has immense potential, and could easily become the new 811a of turret cams on the market - I truly believe this camera could be that good, and if the cons could be addressed - such as;

    Position presets with zoom and focus memory - greatly improving preset performance /speed etc

    Tracking in Patrol mode - an absolute must for a camera of this type - tracking being a most important aspect of security, with patrolling to expand the serviceable field of view

    Directional control - a must for sofit corner installs - where turrets cameras are most valuable - direction control is needed in both patrol mode and preset(homing etc), to avoid the camera panning the building instead of the serviceable area

    ... so many other great ideas that spring to mind when using this wonderful camera, I truly hope Reolink follows through in making this the best turret camera on the market!

    PS, I may revise this review at a later date, and as I spend more time with the camera

  • Love the camera but....

    Easy to mount, setup and images are great.

    The zoom is AWSOME!!! That being said this camera is not recommended for tight spaces. Lots of trees, shrubs, buildings and so on make it limited in use. Even a simple utility pole can be a huge issue when zoomed out to 16x. Best for wide open spaces.

    I agree with another reviewer in that the autofocus takes a lot of time to focus unlike a DSLR that can focus in milliseconds.

    I wish the app had a Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) option. To me this is a huge drawback to this camera and most of Reolink's cameras. WDR for security cameras is a must have in tricky lighting situations like at night or in shade with bright sunlight. For that reason alone it gets one star off the review.
