Troubleshooting – Network of Reolink Wireless IP Camera frequently Drops off

The Reolink wireless IP cameras are the first dual-mode Wi-Fi security cameras in the world, with 2.4G band and 5.8G band available, and 2T2R MIMO antennas. Normally they have strong signals when connecting via Wi-Fi. If your wireless IP camera frequently drops connection, you may follow the below steps to determine the cause of the problem.

Please make sure you have updated the firmware to the latest version. Usually most known bugs are fixed in the latest update.

The following are the main causes and the solutions to fix the network dropping.

Cause 1: the antennas of the IP camera are loose.
Solution: Try to fit it manually or re-install.

Cause 2: the IP camera is too far away from the router.
Solution: the distance between the router and IP camera is a big factor that affects the network signal. IP camera loses connection when the signal is week. (Please note that the IP camera usually needs a stronger Wi-Fi signal than laptops or cellphones.) Check the Wi-Fi signal bar in Reolink client to see if the signal is strong or not. (Go to Device Settings >> Wifi Settings to check the Wi-Fi signal.

If the Wi-Fi signal is less than one bar, it means your IP camera is too far away from the router or there might be too many barriers (such as walls) between the two. Try to get the router closer to the camera or use a signal amplifier to improve the signal.

Cause 3: the interference between the routers in the same channel weakens the signal.
Solution: the Wi-Fi signal of the router will be weaken if there are many routers near your place using the same channel. Try changing the channel of the router. Please refer to your router supplier’s website for the steps of changing the channel.
